The Knights of Columbus St. John Neumann Assembly #933 last week donated aluminum tabs to the Ronald McDonald House location at 3925 Chestnut St.

The Knights began collecting the tabs – off beer and soda cans, cat and dog food and canned goods – a few months ago.

Ed Kligge and Mike Selinsky brought 10 bags of tabs, weighing 150 pounds.

Accepting the donation were communications manager Ashley Leiss and special events manager Alyssa McHugh. They explained that United Scrap Metal picks up the tabs for recycling and makes a quarterly donation, based on the weight, to the Ronald McDonald House.

The Ronald McDonald House provides temporary lodging, transportation, meals and social services to families who travel to Philadelphia for pediatric care.

The Chestnut Street location deals mainly with families of patients at the nearby Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The location at Front Street and Erie Avenue works with families of patients at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children.

Donating tabs were Holmesburg Knights of Columbus Council; St. Thomas Aquinas, Croydon; Assumption BVM, Feasterville; St. Michael the Archangel School, Levittown; St. Bartholomew, St. Timothy and St. Jerome parishes in the Northeast; and the students and staff of Our Lady of Calvary and A.L. FitzPatrick schools, who drop off tabs to Kiligge, a crossing guard.

The collection will continue. For more information, email Kligge at kliggeedward@gmail.com. ••
