Singing Irish priest in concert at Little Flower
The nonprofit Friends of Little Flower Inc. will welcome Father Ray Kelly, a singing Irish priest, to the school, 1000 W. Lycoming St., on Saturday, Oct. 19. The event is in conjunction with Little Flower’s 85th anniversary. Kelly, a former contestant on Britain’s Got Talent, will celebrate Mass at 4 p.m., followed by a cocktail reception at 5:30 and a concert at 7. Kelly gained fame a decade ago when he sang Hallelujah during a wedding, with the words rearranged for the occasion. The viral video amassed more than 2 million views. Kelly, who serves a parish in County Meath, Ireland, has released several CDs.

Attend Glen Foerd’s Wedding Crashers’ Ball

The interactive event invites guests to become part of the story, blending elements of immersive theater with elegant wedding festivities, and spontaneous celebration.
The creator is inFLUX Theatre Collective, and the event is inspired by the reality TV dating show The Bachelor. Searching for the perfect partner, Glen Foerd’s bachelor must choose among five brides competing for his heart. What ensues promises to be an immersive night of romance, comedy, slapstick and chaos.
The show will go from 7-11 p.m. and will include live music by the West Philadelphia Orchestra, dinner, an open bar, dancing and silent and live auctions. There will also be an afterparty held in Glen Foerd’s Gilded Age mansion’s rathskeller until midnight. Throughout the evening, guests will be part of the narrative, interacting with characters and influencing the unfolding drama of the bachelor, the brides and their entourage.
Guests are encouraged to wear black tie, recycled wedding dresses, that old bridesmaid’s gown from hell, business attire or, in the spirit of Halloween, creative costumes.
All proceeds will go to support Glen Foerd’s community art, education and environmental programming and to preserve the nonprofit’s 18-acre Delaware River estate that includes seven historic structures dating from the 1850s.

The third annual Philly Bike Ride will take place on Saturday, Oct. 19, beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the Philadelphia Museum of Art.
Riders will pass Independence Hall, City Hall, Love Park, Chinatown, Old City, Penn’s Landing and Boathouse Row on Kelly Drive. They can choose between a 20-mile course or a 7.6-mile version, both ending at the art museum.
The free post-ride festival features live music, wellness activities, a beer garden and food trucks.
The cost is $69, with various add-ons available.
A portion of proceeds will support the Bicycle Coalition of Greater Philadelphia and its Youth Cycling Program.

Thanksgiving Parade Nov. 24
The 47th annual Mayfair-Holmesburg Thanksgiving Parade will take place on Sunday, Nov. 24, from noon to 3 p.m. on Frankford Avenue, from Rhawn Street to Knorr Street. The grand marshal will be Ed Lloyd, of Lloyd Sixsmith Sporting Goods, celebrating 50 years in business. Homemade floats are being accepted. Support for Parkinson’s
Temple University Hospital – Jeanes Campus hosts a Parkinson’s Disease Support Group on the second Wednesday of every other month. SRCC condemns another Hoops 24-7 tweet
The Senate Republican Campaign Committee has discovered another of what it calls a “troubling” post from the Hoops 24-7 Twitter account.
Democratic Sen. Jimmy Dillon owns the Hoops 24-7 Basketball Academy.
The SRCC previously pointed to posts from Hoops 24-7 that it said were racist and homophobic. Dillon denied writing the tweets and suggested they were written by players with access to the account.
The latest tweet to surface says, “NE1 (Anyone) looking 2 get lucky 2night, b outside the Wells Fargo around midnight 10,000 women drinking & reliving the glory days of freestyle music.” It was written on Aug. 1, 2015.
“Jimmy Dillon’s past use of racial slurs is vile and disgusting,” said SRCC Executive Director Cody Harbaugh. “But the latest revelation about Dillon is downright dangerous. Giving advice to men on when and where to take advantage of women who are drinking is abhorrent. Senate Minority Leader Jay Costa needs to step up, do the right thing, and denounce Jimmy Dillon. Women, minorities and all the people of Northeast Philadelphia deserve a senator who will represent them with dignity and respect.”
Dillon faces Republican Joe Picozzi. ••
Historic Bristol Day on Saturday
The Bristol Cultural and Historical Foundation Inc. will be presenting the 48th annual Historic Bristol Day on Saturday, Oct. 19 (rain or shine), from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.
The theme is “200th Anniversary of Lafayette’s Farewell Tour.” The day will feature numerous activities.
At 9 a.m., a mural honoring the 100-year history of the Robert W. American Paradigm Schools CEO Ashley Redfearn has been recognized as a recipient of the 2024 CareRing Health Community Trailblazers Award for her dedication to the community and efforts in improving educational opportunities for students across the region.
